Frequently Asked Questions

Company & Cedar

Company & Cedar

Ques: Where does the white cedar come from?

Ans: The northern white cedar that we use for our furniture grows in natural abundance in the northeast corner of Vermont, in an area known as the Northeast Kingdom.

Ques: Is the furniture shipped set up?

Ans: Most of the assembly is done before the furniture leaves the factory, so you will only have to put the big pieces together. For example the bench is shipped in four parts - the assembled back, seat and the two side assemblies. We provide all the hardware and instructions and, in the case of the bench, the tool you need to assemble it. Total assembly time for a bench is about 20 minutes.

Ques: How does cedar weather and how long will it last?

Ans: White cedar is a wood with a well-deserved reputation for durability and natural rot resistance. It has been used for generations for roofing and shingles, fences, fence posts, planking for small boat hulls and, of course, for outdoor furniture. The Vermont Department of Agriculture tells us that a white cedar fence post will last up to 16 years in the ground. We have found that left out year round, untreated and uncovered in Vermont's rugged winters, the furniture will last a minimum of 8 to 10 years. Furniture that is brought inside or covered for the winter will last twice that long.

Ques: Can the furniture be painted or stained?

Ans: Any number of finishes can be used on cedar furniture. The types we have tried and recommend are good quality penetrating sealers and transparent or opaque exterior stains. Paint will work fine but like on any exterior surface, over time will begin to flake and will eventually need scraping and refinishing. We do not recommend oil finishes.

Ques: Is your furniture guaranteed?

Ans: All of our furniture is 100% guaranteed for comfort and quality. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase let us know and we will have it picked up at our expense and will exchange it or issue a full refund. Also during your ownership of the furniture if there should be a problem due to quality of workmanship we will replace any part, assembly or the entire piece of furniture with no charge to you.

Ques: Are there other pieces that you sell that do not appear in your catalog?

Ans: We also make several tables in larger sizes that we sell from our showroom. Because they are too large to ship via Fedex Ground, these need to be shipped regular Federal Express or common carrier, at greater expense to the customer. Please don't hesitate to ask us about those tables or about other custom pieces. Because we are the factory, we have the ability to build just about any outdoor piece.

Ques: What hardware do you use?

Ans: We use high quality stainless steel screws, zinc chromate plated joint connector bolts with 4mm recess head (we send you a 4mm Allen wrench to install the bolts with) and zinc plated carriage bolts, nuts and washers. All of our hardware is very corrosion resistant and scores very high on saltwater spray tests.

Ques: How long will it take to get here?

Ans: After you place your order you will receive an acknowledgment in the mail with the ship date listed. Your furniture will arrive within one to six days after the ship date, depending upon where you live.

Ques: What trucking company do you use for shipping?

Ans: We use FedEx Ground. They deliver practically anywhere in the U.S. and will deliver packages with a length plus girth dimension of up to 130 inches and a weight of up to 75 pounds.
